Much to do about Venison
Deer hunting proves to be a sport that is gaining a lot of recognition. Hunters engage in it for the thrill it gives them, still a lot go for deer hunting for the deer meat that they say is tasty. Venison is the flesh of deer used as food. Venison can be obtained through deer hunting. More and more hunters are starting to like this one of a kind deer meat that is what they say addicting.
Usually, a normal deer being hunted down weighs a lot of pounds that could not fit a regular refrigerator. So, the hunters need to look for ways for the venison to go unspoiled without refrigeration for days. Most of them share the meat to family, friends, and neighbors. Most of the meat, if not accommodated inside the ref, is preserved through canning.
Canning deer meat is also becoming popular so the meat will not get spoiled. Heres how most hunters do their canning:
First is to clean the whole deer meat well. Cut into chunks as small as an inch. Put a half slice of onion and hot pepper, if desired, inside a clean mason jar or any clean, wide-mouthed, airtight screw type jar. Then, start putting venison inside the jar with onions and pepper. Squish the meat inside full-packed and try not to leave air pockets. Leave an inch space on top to add another slice of onion and pepper, if desired and 1 tablespoon of salt. Wipe the top of the jar and put on a new lid and ring. Tighten the cap but dont overdo it so steam can get in. Put venison jars on a cookie sheet and place it inside the 200 degree oven for 4 hours. After 4 hours, lay the cookie sheet on top of a towel to allow the jars to cool and pop to seal. Check the jars if they are sealed. Those that did not should be put inside the ref and the meat inside will be eaten first. The jars that were sealed well can be stored at room temperature for years. You can enjoy the venison on top of crackers, bread, or create your unique dishes with them.
